Oasis Means Business
By Kristie Snyder,

A bright light in an otherwise dim economy, GreenStar's Oasis continues to perform beyond expectations. Oasis Manager Cilla Cartland cites physical improvements, thoughtful product offerings and, most importantly, great customer service as the reasons why.
GreenStar members voted by a 3-to-1 margin in early 2004 to buy the foundering privately-owned Oasis Natural Foods store located in downtown Ithaca's Dewitt Mall, and GreenStar opened the store as GreenStar Oasis in May 2004. Seven years later, the store is thriving, though there have been some tough times along the way.
DeWitt Mall
GreenStar at DeWitt Mall (Oasis) is a cozy downtown natural foods market nestled in the historic Dewitt Mall, just blocks from Ithaca’s renowned Commons. Whether you’re looking for a hot meal, a few vitamins, your week’s groceries or just a cup of tea, Oasis has got the goods.

By Priscilla Cartland, Oasis Manager Ice cream and gelato are both tasty treats, with some important differences. Whichever you prefer, we've got it.
Ice cream or gelato? What's the difference, you ask? There are a few subtle differences that make for two very different textures. Ice cream is churned at a higher speed, thus containing more air than gelato. With a higher ratio of cream to whole milk, ice cream generally has a bit more fat in it. In the end, gelato boasts a thicker, creamier texture and heightened flavors. We've brought in the full line of gelato from Maples, a certified organic Maine-based company that uses local Maine milk, cream, and eggs. They make their gelato slowly, in small handcrafted batches. The flavor combinations they offer are exquisite: Ginger Cardamon, Turkish Fig with Orange, and Sea Salt and Caramel, to name a few. Other exciting (and affordable) treats now flying off the shelves are Lake Champlain organic chocolate bars, in tempting flavors such as Crunchy Granola, Creamy Coconut, and Aztec. Treat yourself soon!

Making our sourdough bread requires a little bit of art and a little bit of science -— and a very early rising time!*Not many people rise from their warm and cozy beds at 3 am every day and ride their bike to work to happily measure out flour, water, yeast, and salt — the only ingredients in our sourdough bread. Of course, a lot needs to happen to these ingred...
